ICD9 Codes

I'm a little behind (again) but wanted to post the link for the press release from APFED about the new ICD9 codes in case you haven't seen it.

Our doctor was very interested in getting a copy - something about "we're the last ones to hear about these things...."

For those of you who are not familiar with ICD-9 codes, these are seemingly strange numbers that are VERY important because they are used to designate a patient's diagnosis, something that must accompany EVERY health care encounter (doctor/NP visit, etc.) So, what does that mean for those of you living day in and day out with EoE? While it doesn't change your daily life, it does mean that there is now a national recognition of EoE (and the other EGIDs) as "official" diagnosis. Yea!

Update on the codes: I have had one other Peds GI tell me that their billers have a different code for chronic EoE... still investigating and awaiting confirmation.
