All,
I swang by the park behind Evans Library. It's a beautiful location with lots of tall trees, a fenced-in pond with a water fountain, a gazebo over the water, a 1/3 mile walking trail, a small playground designed for 5-12 year olds, and the Columbia County amphitheater. There aren't any BBQ pits, though, so no fire... for now. :)
Of great importance, though, are the other activities taking place on Saturday at the government center on Ronald Reagan drive. Saturday night from 7pm to 9:30pm on the lawn in front of the courthouse is a FREE!!!! celebration for veteran's which culminates with a firework show. I like FREE. A loooooooooooot.
So, there's the information. Now, do we change the time? Get together for the free shows (the army band from Ft. Gordon will be there and the Augusta Children's Chorale will perform plus other fun stuff) and fireworks?
I'm all for moving the time either a little earlier or getting together in conjunction with the shows. Plus, I really like fireworks.
Pass the word!

Free shows sound great! We love fire works too. Thank you for looking into this for us.
What are the details on times and locations for everything? I don't get the newspaper or listen to the radio (watch the news, etc) so I am woefully ignorant on this stuff - Sorry! Is it all happening at the park? Is the park going to be extra crowded, you think?
The fireworks are in the field across from the government complex. The show last year was in front of one of the buildings. We did not go behind the library to see how many people were there.
So, fireworks later in the evening. Anything earlier in the day in the park?
There weren't any other scheduled activities that day that I saw. I looked at the columbia county website (www.columbiacountyga.gov) and there weren't any other activities scheduled there, either.
So... what say we meet at 5:30 or so and play at the park until 7pm and the start of the shows?
Anyone have more comments on this one?

This sounds good. 5:30, play til 7pm, then start the shows. Are we eating dinner at home, bringing snacks or bringing dinner?
If we are changing it to meet there at 5:30pm, we need to send out the message via email too. I already mailed the paper invites which say 4pm on them. BUT they do advise people to email/call for updated info... do you think it's ok to change the time now if there is an email notification?
If all who receive a letter have access to the website and I can email them a reminder then I think it will be alright to change the time otherwise we should probably keep it at 4pm.
